Sturgis, SD  (10.9.2015) – Enrollment for the 2015-16 school year is up in Meade School District 46-1.

This year’s official count is 2,687 – 45 more students than last year. At a per student allocation of $4,877, this increase equates into almost $220,000 more in state aid.

Meade Superintendent Don Kirkegaard said the 2015-16 budget was built based on anincrease of 30 students. “Naturally, we are a bit relieved,” he said. 

The largest increase in enrollment is at Sturgis Williams Middle School where there are 30 more students than last year for an enrollment of 497 in grades six, seven and eight.

The rural schools have 16 more students for an enrollment of 103 in kindergarten through eighth grade. 

Six more students are enrolled at Piedmont Valley Elementary for a total of 569 in grades kindergarten through sixth. 

The official enrollment for Sturgis Brown High School is 677, two more than last year.

Sturgis Elementary School has the same number of students as last year – 716 in kindergarten through fifth grade, while Whitewood Elementary School has 17 fewer students for an enrollment of 106 in kindergarten through sixth grade.

The enrollment also includes 18 out-of-district students.
