Sturgis, SD – (1/15/2015) The City of Sturgis is pleased to announce they have entered into a formal, long-term agreement with Harley-Davidson of Milwaukee, WI. The agreement names Harley-Davidson as the Official Motorcycle brand of the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally for what is sure to become historic 75th anniversary of the Sturgis® Motorcycle Rally ™.
“For decades, Harley-Davidson was the unofficial motorcycle of Sturgis, and now, it gives me great pleasure to solidify its status as the “Official Motorcycle of the 75th Annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally and for years to come,” said Mark Carstensen, Mayor of Sturgis. It has been a goal of the Sturgis Rally Department to build more long-term relationships with major sponsors. This agreement will elevate the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally to a new height as the next generation of motorcycle enthusiasts continue to build on the legacy that began 75 years ago.
The agreement includes many beneficial partnering elements that will take place in the upcoming years. The first partnering venture will be a permanent plaza constructed at the corner of Second and Main Street. The plaza will include a stage for events, concerts and other year-round celebrations where riders, tourists and the greater Sturgis community will gather. The new multi-purpose space builds on the legacy of the Harley-Davidson brand and will incorporate bricks from the company’s Milwaukee headquarters, a building that once housed the company’s first permanent factory dating back nearly 100 years. The plaza will be under construction beginning in March and will be complete prior to the August 3 start of the 75th Sturgis® Motorcycle Rally ™.
