STURGIS (8/11/14) – Plans are underway to construct a 48-unit rental housing development on a 3-acre parcel located at the corner of Ballpark Road and East Drive in Sturgis. Dane Goetz, general manager for Baron Properties, Inc. will develop Sierra Vista Sturgis in three phases, with the first 16-unit complex ready for occupancy in 2015.
Each 2-story complex will feature 1, 2, and 3 bedroom units ranging from 800 sq. ft. to 1,050 sq. ft. Floor plans offer an open floor concept all on one level. These market-rate rental units will be furnished with all major appliances, including air conditioning, dishwasher, garbage disposal, electric range, microwave hood, side by side refrigerator with water & ice dispenser, and full size washer and dryer. Baron Properties purchased the property from the Sturgis Economic Development Corp (SEDC). SEDC had recently acquired the parcel from Heritage Acres, Inc. For the past 18 months, SEDC has been working with the City, landowners, and potential contractors to develop new, affordable living options for our workforce. A recent housing study commissioned by the City and SEDC outlined the housing shortage in Sturgis. SEDC President Pat Kurtenbach states, “Sierra Vista Sturgis will be a great asset to our community.
